Urana - 26 foot Carvel Built

UranaLauching

Urana is a 26 foot carvel launch with a skipper (canoe) stern, built in Victoria around 1911. Her hull is kauri pine with a beach deck with teak and brass fittings.

She was used in the Yarra River to transport the River Pilots between ships as required during the early 1900’s.

I spotted her at Taren Point in 2005 when she was in pretty good condition. She was returned to the water after being out for some time for a refit and subsequently sank. She was pulled from the water after around 4 months and started to deteriorate rapidly from there.
I could not bear to see her scrapped, or worse, somebody else get her, so I purchased her and committed to her restoration. Here is how she was.
Twenty months and many dollars later here she is living happily on the Woronora River.
