Urana wins best boat in annual putt putt comp!...

PUTT PUTT REGATTA
ST GEORGE MOTOR BOAT CLUB

Well another year has passed and this event snuck up on members!  We were ill prepared for the day as Neil Farmer scrambled to get a crew, let alone organise a theme!  His first officer was absent in Bendelong reading books and will possibly face some disciplinary action.  As we all know Neil is in to discipline!  The absense of Winnie was also disheartening, its skipper having had recent surgery.  We have been told that his limp is getting better and Winnie Too has helped his condition by making his wallet much lighter!   Dispite the sombre situation our crew put in and committed to taking one for the team in the dismal conditions.  Wonnie historically rules this event!  We wore our Club shirts and caps with pride together with Red Wet Weather Jackets and this was later to draw nomination for best theme!

Stalwart members Greg, Peter and Max Farmer backed the club with Neils entry and were seen cruising down our beloved Wonnie just after 7am in drizzling rain. What commitment!  Bias Carlton Coffee was served from a thermos with Chocolate Orio's and this seemed to lift the spirits of our representative team that was quietly confident that Urana was more than worthy of a trophy at this event.  Big shoes to fill after previous wins from the efforts of Johnno and Denise with Winnie Too, which is a proven crowd favourite.

We cruised to our rightful place in front of our sister club and Greg suggested we turn the boat and point her toward open water.  The clubs Regatta experience was shining through and this proved to be a formidable tactic that kept us in front of a very aggressive Hartley Team entry that seemed committed to damaging or even sinking our priceless Urana!

Bribery is the name of the game but an effort to keep breakfast and beer money proved another good tactic.  With some trepadition our fearless skipper was forced to call our entry a 'Cruiser' to which he was somewhat offended but we battled on.  The crew also rejected the advances of female officials.  We wanted to win fair and square although Max had to be restrained from going home with several females that were relentless in their obvious affections!

Urana proved a crowdpleaser and built on previous efforts of Winnie Too and apart from a broadside attack on the port side from the Hartley Team the event went like clockwork.  Our skipper managed to avoid a collision with Yanmar Power and we were well placed for a prize.  The Hartley Team later took on the entire fleet of St George MBC which seemed a rather expensive exercise and was last seen figure eighting recklessly between million dollar boats toward Georges River.

After a long wait and various very reasonable propositions to our high profile members from females in the crowd the results were finally in!

Neil Farmers entry 'Urana' had been nominated in all three categories - a historic result for our club!  After much patience Urana was crowned ' Most Outstanding Classic Boat' and the trophy was ours!!!  Long live WRMBC!

What followed was invitations to lunch from women on other boats and applications to join our exclusive clan.  Our club is gaining profile and people want to be part of our exclusive group!  Lyn, Sue and Sue would be well advised to attend this event with their husbands in future as their upmarket sandwiches, exclusive beers and attention was fantasic!

All in all a great result.  Well done and congratulations Neil the boat looks magnificent!
